We recently watched the inauguration (swearing in) of our new President, Barack Obama. This was an exciting moment in our country. Our whole school watched the inauguration together. Afterwards, we recorded a VoiceThread with our thoughts about the inauguration. We thought our BlogPals might like to see our VoiceThread.
In our school we celebrate a holiday that is called Purim. It is when we dress up as people from 2000 years ago. You can make and eat Hamantaschens which are triangular cookies with any type of filling that you want. They are named after the villian of Purim Haman.
At our school we use a site on the internet that is called voicethread. On voicethread, you record a recording that you say and you can record anything you possibly would want to (as long as it is appropriate for school–my teacher made me add that). Also you’ve got to make an avatar if you want to save your recording on your server. In our Hebrew class, we wrote stories in Hebrew, drew pictures, and made a recording saying what our story said. Here is our voicethread. You probably won’t understand it because it’s in Hebrew.
Scratch is a wonderful application that you can go on. On scratch you can make almost anything that you want. Also, when you make your sprite/ or get your own sprite, you can do anything. Your sprite is basically like an avatar. There are blocks at the top left corner that are; Motion, Looks, Sound, Pen, Control, Sensing, Numbers, and Variables. Also, you can record your own voice or you can get voices that were already downloaded for scratch.
We don’t get snow here in Florida, but we have fun making snowflakes on the computer.
Try it- you can write a message, and send your flake into the snowstorm. You can also see other people’s creations and read their messages by touching any snowflake (even the small ones that look like white dots). Here are some of ours:
Sukkot is a Jewish holiday where people get together and go to each others sukkahs. Normally they eat dinner together and then leave, but in Israel people normally sleep in their sukkahs under the stars. For the sukkah to be proper (or kosher) it must have two and a half walls or three walls. It also must not have too many leaves (or schak) on the top so that you can see the stars when you sleep. Mostly if you go to somebody’s sukkah you will see fruits or lights hanging from the ceiling. By Jared and Aaron
Yom Kippur is a Jewish holiday. On Yom Kippur you throw bread into a pond, lake and a river, and you throw bread into the water because you put all your bad sins into the bread. We also pray a lot. On this day we ask for forgiveness. Adults fast on this day. Fasting means that you do not eat for the whole day.
